天津，简称“津”，别称津沽、津门，是中华人民共和国省级行政区、直辖市、国家中心城市、超大城市，国务院批复确定的中国北方对外开放的门户，中国北方的航运中心、物流中心和现代制造业基地。截至2021年末，全市下辖16个区，总面积11966.45平方千米，常住人口1373万人。
天津是国家历史文化名城 ，自古因漕运而兴起，唐朝中叶以后成为南方粮、绸北运的水陆码头；金朝在直沽设“直沽寨”；元朝设“海津镇”，是军事重镇和漕粮转运中心；明永乐二年（1404年）正式筑城，是中国古代唯一有确切建城时间记录的城市，是中国北方最大的港口城市。
2021年，天津地区生产总值15695.05亿元，按可比价格计算，同比增长6.6%。第一产业增加值225.41亿元，增长2.7%；第二产业增加值5854.27亿元，增长6.5%；第三产业增加值9615.37亿元，增长6.7%。
地理位置
天津地处中国华北地区，华北平原东北部，海河流域下游，东临渤海，北依燕山，西靠首都北京，其余均与河北相邻，地理坐标位于北纬38°34′—40°15′，东经116°43′—118°4′之间。 天津是中蒙俄经济走廊主要节点、海上丝绸之路的战略支点、“一带一路”交汇点、亚欧大陆桥最近的东部起点，位于海河五大支流南运河、子牙河、大清河、永定河、北运河的汇合处和入海口，素有“九河下梢”“河海要冲”之称。

天津位于中纬度亚欧大陆东岸，主要受季风环流的支配，是东亚季风盛行的地区，属温带季风气候。主要气候特征是，四季分明，春季多风，干旱少雨；夏季炎热，雨水集中；秋季气爽，冷暖适中；冬季寒冷，干燥少雪。
天津年平均气温12～15°C，市区平均气温最高。1月最冷，平均气温－5～－1°C；7月最热，平均气温26～29°C。天津季风盛行，冬、春季风速最大，夏、秋季风速最小；年平均风速2～4米/秒，多为西南风。天津年平均无霜期196～246天，最长无霜期267天，最短无霜期171天。在四季中，冬季最长，有120～160天；夏季次之，有90～140天；春季55～60天；秋季最短，仅为50～55天。天津年平均降水量550～600毫米，降水日数63～70天；在地区分布上，山地多于平原，沿海多于内地；在季节分布上，6、7、8三个月降水量占全年约75%。天津日照时间较长，年均日照时数2471～2769小时。
